Viet Passion

In our effort to continue to try every restaurant within walking distance of the Traders Hotel before we finish our relocation period, we walked down Raja Chulan past the Thai Bistro/To Dine For restaurant we had eaten at before and chose from among the other offerings of Chulan Square, finally settling on Viet Passion as we hadn't yet had any Vietnamese food. And what a great choice it was! Although there was no other diners when we walked in, before we left it had become half full, so either we started a trend (e.g., we often won't go into an empty place, on the assumption that a full restaurant is a place that people want to eat at, and vice versa) or we're just eating too early for this city.

Pimm's Spritz

I had the Pimm's Spritz cocktail because I have a fondness for Pimm's No. 6 in its veddy veddy Britishness. As you can see, the addition of the hibuscus flower made for a nice presentation, matching the purpleness of the Pimm's fairly well. I'm still trying to recall exactly how they made their version, as I'm pretty sure it's not the normal 1 part gin with 3 parts lemonade, but whatever they did, it was very drinkable. I had to force myself from downing it quickly to keep myself to the single one.

Since we had been eating so much every night, we purposefully tried to scale back our food order, and simply got an eel curry, fried tofu, and vegetable fried rice. While everything was great, it was the last that was the delight. Although we'd been eating some version of vegetable fried rice for either lunch or dinner every day, it was the first time we were served vegetables that hadn't been diced to microscopic proportions mixed in the rice. It wasn't overcooked, either, but just right, with the amount of rice to vegetables roughly equal.

Viet Passion "Vegetable Fried Rice"

We probably should have tried the dessert, given just how good everything else was, but we were trying to reduce our intake. This one is definitely a restaurant worth returning to once we move out of town into the 'burbs.
