HVAC Upgrade Day 1

Today starts the long-awaited upgrade of the HVAC system in our home. I was hoping for somewhat warmer weather since we'll be without central heat for the two-to-three days of the work, although it could have been worse, I suppose. Today and tomorrow I'll be working from home to keep the workers company (answering questions, watching over the work), then J's going to have that duty on Wednesday.

I took some "before" pictures this morning to document the progress. Here's the old Tappan heat pump that is going to be replaced by a new high efficiency Carrier unit.

And here's one view of the attic, showing the old blower unit and the existing ductwork. We're having them put the new blower to the side and running all the ductwork along the sides to try and open up the middle of the attic so that we can finish it into a playroom for me (i.e., someplace to setup my synthesizer that's not in the middle of our living room).

The work is being performed by Davis & Davis of Kensington, MD.
