HVAC Installation Day 2

Everything seems to be going well, as I haven't been approached by the installers to address any "surprises" (I remember when the bathroom remodeling in our DC condo had a couple of surprises, ). The most noticeable change right now is outside, as the new Carrier Infinity 16 Heat Pump with Puron Refrigerant (16.0 SEER and 9.0 HSPF) has been installed. First they evacuated the old air conditioning system (removing the freon for recycle). Then they erected a new Dura-Grid platform (a plastic-based base, rather than the concrete paving stone the old unit was one), set and secured the Carrier unit. Then they installed a weather-tite outdoor electrical disconnect beside it, replacing the old disconnect. They replaced the refrigerant tubing with new 3/4 x 3/8 copper tubing.

New Heat Pump

Upstairs, they removed the old blower and all of the ductwork that had been in the center of the attic. The new air handler is to be installed on the right of the attic and the duct work is being reworked to stay near the outside walls, leaving the center of the attic open so that we can finish it.

Installation in Progress

The only negative so far has been the weather, which turned out to be a little cooler for this time of year than expected. I fired up the wood stove yesterday afternoon and this morning I've got it going again. They're not scheduled to be finished until tomorrow, so until then, the wood stove is our heat source.
