The Blogroll

I let the blogroll get out of hand last year, which was easy to do using the blogrolling site. When I switched over to using Google reader for my RSS feeds, I even forgot to update Blogrolling, which meant that the blogroll got increasingly out-of-date with what I actually follow. Late last year, I blew away the entire sidebar and reconstructed the roll manually, mainly to focus on the people I know.

I realized when I was writing the Hounds of Love review that I had been a little too wild with the knife and knocked off one of my oldest friends and one of the original bloggers, Bill Humphries. That has now been corrected. Similarly, I've been enjoying Walter Jon Williams's commentary, and I first met him at an ArmadilloCon in the 80s.

But the real point of this entry is to pass on one of the sites I've been reading for quite some time, and which needed to be added back to the blogroll. At book club this past weekend, we got to talking about home remodeling and those handy little things that make household life a little bit better. I don't often buy the things mentioned in Cool Tools, but I always find them interesting. Although hosted on Kevin Kelly's site, it is more like the publication he used to edit, The Whole Earth Review, than a personal blog, as it has as many guest contributors as Kelly himself.

And, finally, the most humorous blog that I've found in the last year is Chris Sim's Invincible Super Blog, which features a weekly roundup of comics in the style of "he reads it so you don't have to." It's a rare blog that has a recurring them of "Batman punches you so hard it's like being shot with a gun." I do warn you, though, that you might need to have a fairly thorough grounding in the medium of comics, and especially superhero comics, to get some of the jokes.
