Mourning Molly

It saddens me to mark the passing of Molly Ivins today. While I only read one book of hers, Molly Ivins Can't Say That, Can She, I often read her columns online and her's was the only feature in The Progressive that I always read during our subscription to that magazine. Like George W. Bush, she wasn't born in Texas but adopted the place as her home and in most people's minds became synonymous with it. I feel she was as important to the Texas Democratic Party as Ann Richards, whom Ivins eulogized only a short while ago. Even sadder is the fact that I can't think of another commentator able to fill her spot as the liberal gadfly of both national and Texas politics. She will be missed.
