Goodbye Red Sage

I just learned today that one of my favorite downtown DC restaurants, Red Sage, closed its doors on December 22 because its landlord wanted too much rent. Ever since J and I have lived in DC, Red Sage has been an oft-visited eating hole, although we tapered off somewhat after J's office moved to Arlington from Downtown and my work took me more into Maryland. Still, whenever we had company, Red Sage was one of the places we usually considered taking them for dinner if we were downtown. It will be missed.

I'm surprised that I didn't learn this from DC Foodies, which is my usual source for this kind of info. Instead, he's making fun of Silver Spring for trying to jump on the Restaurant Week bandwagon. Admittedly, there's no need for Red Lobster to offer me a restaurant week special--there are some chains that deserve to be broken--but if Jackie's wants to tempt me to try them again at a bargain price, why should anyone complain?

I was saddened to hear of Red Sages closing. I painted the mural of the four horses depicting fire, water, wind and earth. I would like to know what became of the mural. was it included in the new establishment, or did it go the way of all things?
