His True Colors

I think it's time for Gary Trudeau to switch icons that he uses to portray George Bush. Since 9/11, he's been portraying Bush as a Roman Centurion Brush helmet, but given the recent revelations regarding Bush's signing an illegal authorization of the NSA to spy on American citizens and his lack of any contrition or remorse (other than being upset at the people who leaked the information) shown following this report, it's obvious that Bush sees himself as something much more than President--even the strutting wartime President that Trudeau was slying hinting at. Instead, Trudeau should shift to using a crown, for it's apparent now that we've come under the rule of King George II (or would that be King George W?--it's too bad W wasn't a Roman numeral).

In the words of yet another great political cartoonist, "We have met the enemy, and he is us." Bush touts a lot about bringing democracy to the Middle East, but it shouldn't be at the cost of reducing democracy in the U.S. Torture, secret prisons, people disappearing and transported with no record, and domestic spying sound like the things that Saddam Hussein is accused of, rather than being U.S. standard operating procedure.

He deserves to be thrown out on his ear, along with Cheney, the "architect" of this foreign policy, except that would leave us with Denny "Who?" Hastert. Hmm. Maybe I should look up Hastert to see what kind of President he would be.
