DSL or Cable?

The Lazy Web question of the day: "We are moving to Silver Spring in two weeks and I have to decide on a new provider for my high-speed Internet. Should I go with Verizon DSL or Comcast Cable?"

Any help (horror stories) would be appreciated.

Hi, Glen. I was just googling myself - which is less naughty than it sounds - and came across a reference in here you made to me.

I'd been meaning to swing by anyway to add you to my blogroll.

How've you been? Why are you moving? And why do you have like four blogs between you and Jill?:)

Well, is simple, really. Would you be preferring shooting in left foot, or in right?

Hey, Scott, thanks for dropping by--we're moving to both get a little more living space as well as shorten my commute time (I've got a new position in Baltimore).

As for having all the blogs, well, you know, I'm omnipresent on the web.

I think I'll opt for shooting the right, if you don't mind, John.

Will you be in a Starpower neighborhood? We have starpower and are very happy with it. (It's RCN now, actually.) 10MBPS internet, digital, high-def cable and phone bundle.

Some parts of Silver Spring have Verizon FiOS now too, but I know little about it.

When I had Comcast internet a few years ago, I was very unhappy with it. It went down every night from about 7-midnight. They may have upgraded their facilities since then, though.

Probably too late for decision-making, but we have Verizon DSL and have not had any availability problems to speak of. For whatever it's worth. We just got an offer from our cable company (not Comcast) to consider switching, but at this point it's not worth the transition costs to us...
