The Ultimate Gaming Tool

It's game night tonight (the finale of the Deadlands game which I'm the gamemaster for, which means I get to be a player again soon!) and in the back of my mind for the last couple of days have been what's likely to happen tonight. One of the issues that came up in this gaming session was a map of the City o' Gloom, which I had to prepare inpromptu since I didn't own that source book. I'm not surprised that the players wanted the map--when I'm a player, I often want some kind of visualization, which is why we all love to play with Matt as the GM given his huge resources of miniatures and Dwarven Forge.

Then I discovered this map projection project and my envy meter pegged the red line. Oh my gosh, that would be fun! (found via boing boing)

You play D&D too, right? That site that the projection info is on (www.d20srd.org) is all-around awesome. I use it (w/ laptop) for running my D&D game now, and haven't needed to peek in the rulebooks once since I started.

Also, you double-posted this entry, btw.

Synchronicity! Check out this thread on EN World for a similar, but inferior, set-up.

WOW. That's a cool, cool thing. Seems a laptop would be more cost-effective than more Dwarven Forge at this point.

Nate, we don't play D&D currently (or have plans to), but we will be going back to D20 Modern next week. I'd love to be able to table a system like this...maybe someday, when we finish the basement and put a gaming table down there...

3 hrs. till gaming!
