A Higher Definition
Tom Shales covers a part of the story on NBC's atrocious coverage of the Olympics in a story this morning about a snafu with the commercials running on the high definition channel. Frankly, it's not the commercials that have been bothering me (I never watch them anyway, and compared to the normal NBC coverage, I much prefer the one repeated commercial over three minutes of diverse blaring), but how they seem to have stationed one camera in the pool and one in the gym and let them stay there throughout the games. Swimming and gymnastics all fine and dandy, but how about some high definition coverage of some of the other events (like, equestrian? or shot put?)?
Shales nails it perfectly with this statement thought:
It appears that NBC really didn't give much thought to its HDTV coverage, but that doesn't make it any less gorgeous to see.
So true, so true.
