Tennis 2004: First Loss of the Season

The second match this year between Alex and I happened on this cold March morning, as winter tries to retain a little grip on the area before the cherry blossoms bloom. As such, the courts we normally play on were empty. Forty degrees farenheit proves to be a test of the hardiness of your average tennis player.

The match started well for me as I was able to break Alex's serve early on and jumped out to a 4-2 lead. But then he came back, and I started wheezing, and won four straight games, breaking my serve twice, and winning 4-6. He deserved it, as he worked hard for it, but next week will be warmer and he best be warned.

Interesting. As much as I play, and as pig a part of my life as it is, I am not sure I've ever taken the time to post about tennis.

The reason I'm blogging our tennis matches is the same reason, I think, why Jim Henley blogs his exercise and weight loss regime: to keep track of it, to keep my mind on the goal of getting exercise regularly, and to build a bit of competition up (as it is competition that regular drives me). It's a little narcisstic, but it works.

And Glen likes to make sure I realize where we stand during our 2004 tennis season. But what he hasn't realized is that this is also a good way for me to remind him of how many games ahead I am this season. Yeah, this blogging thing works.
