Missing out on World Fantasy

I think I might be royally pissed at myself.

A year ago, I posted in excitement about the fact that the World Fantasy Convention was going to be in my town this year, but I never acted on that idea (like buying a membership) for a couple of reasons: (1) I don't really read that much genre work anymore nor hang out with the convention-going gang and (2) $200 is quite a bit for what would be my major activities at the convention, i.e., going to panels, buying books that I won't read, and drinking in the bar. For that kind of money, I think I'll just skip to the latter activity.

Except I learned today that one of my favorite authors, Graham Joyce, will be attending. Double-damn! I thought I had perused the full list and taken full notice of anyone I couldn't miss.

Now I'm wondering if there will be any badge-checkers at the entrance to the bar.
