The title, normally attributed to "angry young man" Elvis Costello, is usually used by people to poo-poo the idea that music commentary is worth anything. I disagree--I think a dance about architecture would be quite interesting (likely more so than one about the sugar plum fairies which put my father-in-law and me to sleep) and likely to teach you something (if only because you're going, "now why did he jump there"), and so I'm quite interested in what people have to say about music.
Which is why I'm quite excited that Thiamin Trek has announced that he will be writing a number of reviews about the music that "engender[s] strong feelings" in him. If his first entry, on Sondre Lerche, is any indication, this could be dangerous for me, as I'm now very interested in hearing that album.
One thing that Keith mentions in his entry is an iPod with 30-gig of storage space. That would nearly contain my entire collection of CDs, Glen says, hoping that the birthday fairy is listening.
One of these days I'll have to comment on the likes/dislikes in music. It looks like Keith and I have somewhat similar tastes, although I'm wont to contradict myself (for example, I dislike certain voices that I found rough and untuneful, like Dylan and Springsteen, yet can listen to Peter Hammill).
I really must comment some more on music, if only to mention recent purchases like Luther Wright and the Wrong's Rebuild the Wall, a bluegrass version of Pink Floyd's The Wall. I haven't decided if it's an abomination or the funniest thing in country music since Homer and Jethro.

You've heard the Austin Lounge Lizards do their bluegrass version of Brain Damage, yes?

I've seen the Lounge Lizards, I actually own one of their albums Small Minds, but I can't say that I've heard their Floyd cover.
I'm surprised Jill hasn't popped in here with the note about the album she heard about on NPR: a reggae dance-club version of Dark Side of the Moon called Dub Side of the Moon.

Dub Side of the Moon is kind of fun, but not sure I'd buy it. I do like it better than the bluegrass version you bought.
Haven't been posting due to the conference, and all that San Diego sunshine I see outside my window. (The downside of travelling with a laptop is that you feel compelled to work while on travel. Oh, and all those deadlines, and people waiting for my input, etc. bleah!)

Let me know if you do check out the Sondre Lerche disc. It would be helpful to know if my comments were on the mark.
