Friday Five (7 Mar 2003)
There's a thing in the blogosphere called "the friday five." Every Friday, you visit a website and find the five questions there for you to respond to on your own blog, and post a link to that post. I'm not sure what it accomplishes, other than making for an easy blog entry, and since I've been on a one-note, no taxation without representation, bent recently, it's probably best that I leaven that with something that I don't get quite so incensed about.
Without further ado, here's today's answers to the friday five:
1. What was the last song you heard?
"The Queen and the Soldier" by Suzanne Vega. Not necessarily on purpose. I'm just sitting at the iMac with iTunes randomly playing songs from the large playlist. I do like Suzanna Vega quite a bit, though, and while this particular song is a little overdone, it at least has the luxury of not being overplayed.
2. What were the last two movies you saw?
Oooo. This is a tough one. Because of Jill's school schedule recently we've not been doing as many movies as we normally do. Most of our video intake recently has been the sweeps month's worth of new Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes. But I should be able to identify this....
Chicago! Great, great movie. I enjoyed it even more than that other recent movie musical, Moulin Rouge. What makes it all work for me is not simply my love for that type of jazz or the time period, but the presentation of the songs by the announcer, where everything just seems to be in a world where there's someone waiting in the wings to introduce you to the audience.
The other has to have been The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. There's so many more we've been meaning to see, like The Hours (loved the book) and Rabbit Proof Fence. Maybe after Jill's proposal is defended....
3. What were the last three things you purchased?
- Sent one fax to New Jersey
- Mailed envelope to New Jersey
- A six-pack of Shiner Bock
4. What four things do you need to do this weekend?
- Laundry
- Grading (I have 20 comic scripts and about 10 critical commentaries to mark; thankfully, this next week is AU Spring Break)
- Clean up the house for...
- The RPG we are playing here.
5. Who are the last five people you talked to?
- Ginny Traylor, a workmate who called about why someone couldn't access a certain area on the discussion boards that I moderate.
- Jill, to find out how she was feeling (she's got a bit of a cold) and to tell her that they were done painting the door to the apartment, so if she needed to she could come home.
- Matt Cutter, who called to say that the package from Amazon with the rule books for our one-shot game that we had been waiting for for two weeks arrived today, missing the packing slip and one of the books, and with one of the books damaged. Good thing we had plans for how we planned to do this game without the books.
- The condo doorman.
- A painter. Along with the above, I talked to these guys in the hall to find out if the paint had dried enough for me to be able to close the door and try to escape some of the paint fumes as well as let the cats out of the bedroom where I had to lock them in so they didn't go exploring the whole building.

Actually, I'm highly tickled by the Friday Five site. The rigid, anal, routine-oriented part of me thrives on the comfort of looking forward to it being there for posting on Fridays. The lazy part of me loves the free writing prompt. The other parts of me are amused by the content of mine and other people's lists. Glad you enjoyed your first FF!
