State's Rights
I think E.J. Dionne's pegged the current administration, and its ideological cronies, in this examination of current Supreme Court decisions.
This isn't new. We saw this last December when George W. Bush, titular head figure for the Republican party, the party of state's rights, took his legal battle to the Federal courts as soon as he thought he might not get his way in the Florida Supreme Court. In politics, Bush knows that you don't let your ideals get in the way of your bid for power. The party backed him all the way, too, bussing in election squabs to terrorize recount officials in the halls.
As Elvis Costello wrote, "I used to be disgusted. Now I try to be amused."
