Train to Dublin

After breakfast, around 10am, Dannaka, one of Collette and Tillman’s sons, arrived to pick us up. We loaded the horses in the trailer and drove back to Horse Holiday Farm. Along the way we heard about some of the adventures of the “Adrenaline Rush” race. Sounds like all the horses came through just fine and gave their inexperienced riders their share of trouble (e.g., refusing to move, eating continuously, galloping madly, stopping/slowing suddenly, jumping cattle guards, etc.), much of it at night. He said nearly all the teams had a rider fall off, but no major injuries. Crazy, stressful, but they were already talking about how they’d do it differently if asked next time.

At the farm, we fed the horses in the stalls; paid the remainder of the fee to Tillman (around 3/4 of the payment), took a few photos, repacked, and said our sad farewells to the horses. A cab took us to the train station in Sligo and we’re now riding the train to Dublin, a comfortable experience with snacks and nice people and the green of Ireland passing by the windows.

After arriving in Dublin, we took a cab out to a Guest House we’d reserved near the airport. Everything in town had either been very expensive or full so, since we needed to be at the airport early on Sunday, this seemed OK. Nice place, with lots of (kinda) hot water in the shower (the B&Bs had very meager showers).

We took the bus into town—a longer prospect than I expected—had dinner and walked about the Temple bar area, a pedestrian region of shops and restaurants. After a while, Glen was not feeling well so we took the bus back to our room. Turns out he has a touch of food poisoning, so he was up all night. My stomach feels odd but not completely ill, so my guess is something he had for dinner that I just had a taste of. Poor Glen—and he’d so looked forward to the pint of Guinness on the Guinness tour!
