Rio Tempisque Ferry
Nine vehicles off from making the 11:30 a.m. ferry, so we had a moment to pause and drink two Lifts and a coconut, waiting to catch the 12:30 ferry. We lost a little time because we had to get a tire fixed in Nicoya--a white Toyota car had passed us on the road and its passengers had rolled down their window and yelled something at us in Spanish. We stopped and looked at the back of the jeep and that's when we noticed that the left back tire was low--there was a nail in it. We drove it 10 km to a Texaco station in Nicoya where I was able through sign language to tell them what I needed done. The patching took about 20 minutes, and cost only 300 colones.
We're catching the small ferry at the Rio Tempisque, gaining us 110 km to San Jose. The other ferry, at Puntarenas, would get us closer to San Jose, but it is a much longer ferry ride, the ferry only runs four times a day, and buses have precedence. In front of us for this ferry is a cement truck--I'm wondering if the ferry can handle it, then I'm hoping that the truck is empty.
