Lobby of Villa Tournon, San Jose
We are waiting for the transfer from here to the airport for our trip back to Washington. I am (more than) a little nervous that they are picking us up at 8 am for a 10 am flight. We asked three times if that was enough time and they repeatedly said yes. I say, they better be on time.
The ferry ride was short, and the drive basically uneventful--well, okay, there was some fog as well as a lot of traffic on the winding part of the Pan American, plus lots of policios at speed traps. But we negotiated those and made it to San Jose, turned in the car, figured out the taxis (very easy), and checked into our old friend, the Villa Tournon. (Found out today that silly us should have gone to the souvenir shop at this point last night, since a window visit today reveals that they have nice souvenirs that we'd like, but they're closed until 9 am. We haven't bought anything to take back but my bird book).
Dinner, via taxi, was at a little European/Italian place here (established in 1908!). They served adequate food and was a pleasant place, very expatriate--a nice last dinner.
I sit here now, eating croissants from yesterday and worrying about this transfer. I will write a bit more, final impressions, any adventures, at the aeropuerto later.
